Project Brief
The design of this project was challenging as the two food rooms were on the small side for the number of students that the school wanted to accommodate. The number of cooker based work areas was the main issue. In order to maximize wall space, Klick suggested removing the conventional radiators and installing an air conditioning heat pump system at high level to provide hot or cold air. A doorway was also blocked off to provide additional space.
We worked closely with the Head of Food Technology to develop a design which adhered to DfES guidelines and satisfied the DfES appointed architect.
This project was carried out in termtime but with minimum disruption to the school's timetable. The works were phased allowing one food room to be completed and back in use before work commenced on the other.
