Conversion of classroom into Primary school food technology room with prep area
The school actively promote healthy eating and wanted to convert a first floor classroom into a new food technology room suitable for primary school children. The design was to accomodate 8 electric cookers at a lower height of 770mm.
Food Technology room refurbishment.
This project required the entrance to be moved to make better use of the available space. The doorway was previously positioned in the centre of the room which limited the usable space for cookers. Klick Technology blocked the original doorway and relocated the entrance to one end of the room creating enough space for 13 cookers.
Klick Technology worked closely with the academy to minimise costs on the project. Existing Trespa tables were incorporated into the room design. Services were diverted and a non structural wall removed. Surplus lighting units, skirting and architrave were used to finish the room.
The brief was to completely refurbish Room DT5, providing a stainless steel catering facility to upgrade the school's food technology facilities. We were contracted directly by the school and liaised closely with their site management team.
The project required a complete refurbishment, combining two large pantries with the existing space to make one large room. Internal walls were removed creating the need for structural steelwork to be installed.
The brief was to design a modern and functional food technology room, with practical lessons being the priority. The room layout was a challenge as it needed to accommodate 15 ovens and a DDA area including an adjustable height table, hob and sink.
