Conversion of disused canteen / store room into D & T room
Klick were involved in discussions at the early stages of this project regarding the feasibility of converting a disused canteen into a food technology or D & T room. The adjacent gym had previously been used as the dining hall with a hatch through to the canteen. When new dining facilities became available elsewhere the school wanted to make the most of the redundant space.
Conversion of classroom into Primary school food technology room with prep area
The school actively promote healthy eating and wanted to convert a first floor classroom into a new food technology room suitable for primary school children. The design was to accomodate 8 electric cookers at a lower height of 770mm.
The nursery were looking for a company to manage this logistically challenging refurbishment, having experienced difficulties on a previous project. Elmscot Day Nursery is open until 6pm every weekday. There are also strict guidelines to working conditions whilst toddlers are on site.
Klick Technology worked closely with the team at Higgins Construction to ensure the installation ran smoothly and the project was completed on time despite a very tight schedule.
The brief was to come up with a room layout based on the Faraday principles. Throughout the design process there was close collaboration with the Head of Science. He prefered the teachers desk to be positioned at the rear of the lab so that he could observe the pupils' activity whilst carrying out demonstrations which would be viewed by the pupils on the whiteboard at the front of the lab.
Installation of furniture for new build school including assorted classrooms, nursery, PPA room, nurture room, staffroom, kitchen areas, caretaker's room, store and ICT room with bespoke wall storage systems
The school was housed in temporary portacabins whilst the building work was in progress. There was a tight schedule to ensure the move into the new school was on time. This involved close co-operation with Carefoot, the main contractor handling the project, particularly during the final stages when our fitters were working alongside their staff.
The Head of Technology selected 16mm Black Craquele Trespa for the worksurfaces which co- ordinates well with the PVC hygienic splashback. The aim was to create the appearance of a contemporary domestic kitchen which the students could relate to.
